Dil Bechara is the official adaption of the Hollywood film ‘The Fault In Our Stars’ which was remade from a novel of the same name. Quite a famous film and so I will not divulge details about the story. But for those who have watched the original or read the novel would know that the story is a tear jerker. It is indeed beautifully penned and gently tugs the strings of your heart… Read More…

Soul is the story of a music teacher who has his soul separated from his body, soon after he nails his Jazz audition at a club. The story like in all Disney animation movies is heartwarming. It just blows my mind as to how Disney has a knack of effectively conveying the most complex topics in a simple way. While exploring the concepts of life after death and the before life, it also explains us ways in which the invisible helpers guide our souls. .. Read More…

Tanhaji, the movie, is based on the battle of Sinhagarh fought between the Marathas and the Mughals in the 17th century. The story filled with twists and turns is quite good. The screenplay is well penned too. While the first half is a slow buildup of the things that eventually transpire, the second half focusses on the dual between Tanhaji Malusale and Uday Bhaan Singh. And the finale featuring the battle is just epic to say the least! The dialogues are clap worthy and take you back to that era… Read More…

Special Ops follows the story of a hunt for the mastermind of many terrorist attacks taking place in India. Though the story is tried and teed, yet it is a winner in its treatment. The screenplay is water tight and hardly allows you time to breath! I literally binge watched all the 8 episodes after work and yes, late in the night penning my review! Never once was I sleepy or bored, just shows how well the screenplay is penned! The “mystery” is good and revealed right at the end.. One of the best series in 2020 on disney + hotstar. Read More…

Lootcase is the story of Nandan who stumbles on a suitcase full of money and keeps it. Unknown to him, there are more than one goons after this too! The story with chaos at the centre is hilarious. The screenplay is fast paced and doesn’t bore you at any given point of time. The interactions between characters and its share of twists will keep you hooked and booked. This is a character driven screenplay and so this is one of the strongest points here! Read More…

Bahut Hua Sammaan is the story of two engineering students who plan to loot a bank. This is just the beginning for a roller coaster ride. The story has so much more to it. It is funny as well as satirical. The screenplay is filled with so many laugh out loud moments. The best part of it is that while bringing in the current affairs of our country into the picture, this could easily have been a grim and hard hitting affair. Instead, the entire film is presented in a comedic manner, also presenting it in a comic book fashion, something that you may have seen in films like Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota.. Read More…

Criminal Justice : Behind Closed Doors is a story of a woman who has apparently stabbed her husband. What seemed like an open and shut case has much in store to it. The story is hard hitting and relevant, a subject that hasn’t been explored much or even talked about. The screenplay is a bit of a slow burn. It takes its time to develop. But it is intensely gripping and engrossing. Please don’t mistake this to be a thriller. It is an investigative drama. While the season 1 dealt with the state of the jails from a man’s point of view, season 2 explores it from a woman’s point of view.. Read More…

Chhapaak follows the story of Malti(the actual victim was Laxmi) who has acid thrown on her pretty face and how her life changes post it. The story is a good one and follows a different trajectory from Uyare telling a story in almost a documentary style. The screenplay is well penned in the first hour where we get to know about Malti’s case and the eventual culprits. The second half is a bit disjointed and a bit lukewarm for a major part till it falls back on track in the climax. And that scene at the end is chillingly dreadful… Read More…

Panga, features a young mother who was earlier a Kabaddi Player and has now given up her ascending career, to take care of her family. And the film traces her journey to rediscovering herself. A simple but sweet story. The screenplay in the first hour is all about these heart warming moments some of which are so relatable that it almost seemed like my mom’s relationship with me. The problem lies in the second hour where the action shifts to the court. Honestly the proceedings aren’t bad as such but are predictable and the sports part has now fatigued me out… Read More…

Aarya is the story of, yes you guessed it, Aarya whose world turns on its head when her husband is attacked one day. This incident though opens a can of worms that changes her equation with everyone around her. The story is interesting. The screenplay is a slow burn. To set things to perspective, there are 9 episodes of almost 50 minutes each. Now, that is indeed a long web series which could have been reduced to an 8 episode 45 minute each series at be. Yet, the storytelling style is compelling and if treated like a family drama, you will enjoy it. Make no mistake this is a whodunit too, but you will be able to guess it from a mile away and something that could have been handled better when the big reveal finally happens…. Read More…

Khuda Haafiz is the story of Sameer who lands up in the country of ‘Noman’ in search for his missing wife. The first half is excellent and totally keeps you invested but come the second hour, the intensity dips slightly but thankfully it doesn’t derail the film. Another downer is the climax that is a tad underwhelming wherein you expected a little more action from the main lead considering it is Vidyut Jammwal but you have to give it to the writers that they have stayed true to his character… Read More…

An official adaptation of an Israeli web series, Hostages season 2 picks up exactly from the point where season 1 ends. Some of you might argue that the premise is uncannily similar to the popular series Money Heist. Well it is not, nowhere close! The story is interesting. The screenplay is layered and has many twists and turns. The be part is that the suspense is maintained right till the la episode and it is a great one! While the screenplay is thrilling, a few of the subplots could have been avoided to finish the series in 8 episodes. Either that or the end which seemed slightly hurried, could have been fleshed out more instead of the multiple subplots in the middle.. Read More…

PariWar is the story of a father who fakes his health so that his children could visit him. His children are actually at loggerheads with each other who are only interested in his wealth. The story is not really novel, we have seen such dramas earlier too. But, it is the subtle humour that sets it apart. The screenplay wastes no time in getting to the point and is definitely entertaining. There are many light moments but not many that will tickle your funny bone. Rather, it is the conversations between the characters that are interesting to watch. The dialogues are alright – some are witty and funny while others fall a little flat… Read More…
