MASABA MASABA

RATING
3 Star popcorn reviewss

Ok, now this is a surprise. I was aware of this show being out yet I had no clue that this was a webseries. I was under the impression that this is one of those reality shows like ‘Catching Up with the Kardashians’. And when I started watching it, I discovered that it is indeed a webseries and so here is the review.

Masaba Masaba is part autobiography and part fiction on the life of Masaba who is a fashion designer. The story is indeed unique atleast for an Indian audience who haven’t witnessed anything like this. The screenplay is such that it doesn’t take itself too seriously. It is frivolous but the humor is subtle. The drama is never Melo, it is light and frothy with a few laugh out loud moments. The downer is that there is little depth in the drama which could have been explored more. The dialogues will connect with the millennials. Director Sonam Nair had a tricky subject at hand, whether to present it closer to reality or make it dramatic, and she has chosen the middle part. I found her direction to be quite good.

There are a host of cameos of celebrities playing themselves – Kiara Advani, Shibani Dandekar, Farah Khan, Gajraj Rao to name a few. Satyadeep Mishra as Vinay is wonderfully restrained. Smaran Sahu as Jogi is charismatic. Neil Bhoopalam as Dhairya shines. Rytasha Rathore as Gia is sooo cute! This series yet again proves that Neena Gupta is a legend and a fine actor. Masaba playing herself is the surprise package here. In the acting department, she puts in her best foot forward! Wishing her the best for her future endeavors. From the rest of the actors, Nayan Shukla stands out as Gehna.

Masaba Masaba is a Hot Mess, quite literally yet it is enjoyable and entertaining. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea yet if you give it a shot, it will leave you smiling at the end! Having said that, a little more depth in the drama would not have hurt! Available on Netflix!
