At the start of 2019, we were witness to a high octane war film Uri, based on the 2016 Uri attacks. That film possibly has changed the way war films are executed in India. Based on the same theme, I finished watching the web series on Sony Liv, Avrodh. Does it invoke the same feeling as Uri has, stay tuned to find out.

Avrodh follows the same template as Uri had except that it has more drama and technicalities. The screenplay is such that it begins slowly for the first three episodes. The Uri attack though is covered in these episodes and the tension is nicely built up. Late in the fourth episode after the introduction of Amit Sadh’s character, this war drama takes off and refuses to stop till the very end. The energy probably is lower than that of Uri but the technicalities win you over. Also this drama is completely devoid of mindless jingoism. The dialogues are just right here and stick to the point. The war sequences are well shot too so bonus points there! Director Raj Acharya has done a good job with the drama and nowhere do we feel that he is not in control.

Mir Sarwar as Fakruddin is highly underrated but effective and I have always enjoyed his work. Vikram Gokhale as our honorable PM is first rate. Arif Zakaria As Ali Raza is effortlessly good. Pavail Gulati in a cameo shines. Ananth Mahadevan as Satish holds his own. Neeraj Kabi as Shailesh is absolutely brilliant. Madhurima Tuli as Namrata looks pretty and has done a swell job here. Anil George as Abu Hafeez(he was in Uri too but here with a better character) is pretty good. Darshan Kumaar as Major Gautam wonderfully underplays his role and really wish to see more of him. And the beast Amit Sadh as Major Videep is the star of the show. He commands your attention everytime he is onscreen. What a month he has done, 4 releases, 4 different roles and he has nailed every single one of them. And he has earned himself a fan in me! Way to go!

Standing at 9 episodes of almost 30 minutes each, Avrodh is in many ways better than Uri in terms of war technicalities and depth to the characters. A web series that must be watched. Available on Sony Liv.
