DREAM GIRL

RATING
3.5 Star popcorn reviewss

Ayushmann Khurana is a game changer in many ways. Right from his choices to his niche potrayal, he has successfully created a genre for himself with movies like Andhadhun, Badhaai Ho, Article 15, Dum Lagaake Haisha and so on. On his birthday weekend, releases yet another ‘game changer’, Dream Girl. Its trailer was hilarious, this was one movie that I was eagerly waiting for, does it live up to my expectations….lets find out.

Dream Girl is the story of debt ridden Karam who takes up a job at a ‘lets be friends’ call centre that requires him to talk in a female’s voice with some lonely male clients. Soon mayhem begins! The story(having a faint resemblance to the Govinda starrer Aunty No.1) is novel(though a similar concept was successfully executed on the smaller screen on Comedy Nights With Kapil). The screenplay is well penned but dips slightly at the finishing pole when things get preachy. The events leading to the confusion are good but could have been mounted better with an even better build up. But then the writing is still very effective. The dialogues are so funny that you could literally reach your grave laughing! The music is peppy and gels well with the mood of the film. Director Raaj Shandiliya(who was the writer of the hit shows Comedy Circus and particularly Comedy Nights with Kapil where many of the make artists enacted female parts) has done a good job with the subject matter at hand though he could have worked on a few scenes which were repetitive and seems to lag a bit.

Vijay Raaz is hilarious as ever! The boisterous Nidhi Bisht is good. Manjot Singh and Raj Bhansali have some of the best one liners and they both nail it! Rajesh Sharma is good as usual. Abhishek Banerjee is first rate! Annu Kapoor is excellent and shares a sizzling chemistry with his Vicky Donor co star. Nushrat Bharucha is decent but her character is underwritten. And then there is the birthday boy Ayushmann Khurana who yet again breezes through his role of Karam aka Puja aka Dream Girl. Boy can this guy smell a good script and have the balls(no pun intended, atleast not here😂) to pull it off!

On the whole, Dream Girl is a hilarious joyride with several laugh out loud moments. Yes, there is a slight lag in the second hour but the dialogues and performances more than make up for it! Go watch this movie in a theatre with your ‘Dream Girl'(or guy😂).

PS : Don’t be a loner, always confide in your ‘Puja’!
