Hey Prabhu Season 2
Introduction
The OTT content this weekend was in full flow. All major OTT platforms had announced atleast one release for the long weekend. And so when I checked the lineup for MX Player, it had Hey Prabhu Season 2 scheduled for the weekend. Now, I hadn’t watched season 1 until that point and so I quickly wrapped up season 1 which had 6 episodes. Many would argue that it had a lot of sexual content but at the germ of it, it was a coming of age story of a young man in his 20s. I quite enjoyed the vibe of the series. You will find the review of season 1 under the quickies section. So onto season 2, is it worth your time, lets find out.
Story & Screenplay
The second season of Hey Prabhu takes off exactly from the same point as season 1. The story still has that freshness to it which I was pleasantly surprised considering the content which MX Player usually comes up with. The screenplay is light and breezy start to finish. The scenes featuring Tarun family and the office sequences are really done well, some of it make things relatable too. On the downside, the portions in the first half of the series featuring a new character Sikka felt odd and disjoint. It didn’t seem seamless enough and they were a tad boring but towards the end some ground was recovered. The editing of the series vould have been a tad better too, but overall the screenplay was decent enough.
Dialogues, Music & Direction
The dialogues are fun filled and will appeal to the youth. I really enjoyed the soundtrack too here. It was equally fresh and blended well with the drama. The director reigns this tine is tajen up by Abhishek Dogra(season 1 was directed by Shashanka Ghosh) and the direction is pretty good!
Performances
The performances definitely make a mark. Pryanca Taluldar as Karishma is decent in a cameo. Neha Panda as Rimjhim looks cute and has done a good job. Raj Bhansali as Tejpal is also very good. As mentioned earlier I had an issue with the way the character of Sikka essayed by Jasmeet Singh Bhatia was written but his performance especially towards the end was quite good. Sonyaa Ayodhya as Pia has her moments to shine. Devdutt Daani as Chaarminar the cocky guy at the office is aptly cast, he does a good job. Rituraj and Grusha Kapoor(season 1 has Sheeba Chadha) are both excellent as Tarun’s parents. Ashish Bhatia as Aarambh is outstanding and his character might be decisive in season 3. Achint Kaur as Mita is fabulous as always. Parul Bakshi as Arunima looks gorgeous and she is such a natural onscreen. Rajat Barmecha as Tarun who is best remembered for his act in Udaan is in top form here. He represents the youth of today and that includes people like you and me and he puts his best foot forward.
Conclusion
The second season of Hey Prabhu is your coming of age story that oozes with freshness. Available on MX Player.
