Introduction

“Save Me” is a mystery thriller Korean drama that illustrates religious cult, manipulation of human mind and emotions, bullying and friendship perfectly. The drama will leave you in a state of disbelief, questioning your own morals and foundation.

Screenplay & Storyline

The story revolves around Seo Yea-ji as Im Sang-mi, a seoul girl whose family moves to Muji County after her father fails his business but even after coming to a new place, the shadow of helplessness doesn’t leave them, they don’t find the fresh start. Sang mi’s brother faces bullying & assault in his school repeatedly because of his limping state, Sang mi tries her best to protect his brother from everything & make her family happy even in their poor state, unfortunately fate comes into play and she fails, her family breaks apart in the worst way possible. The religious cult Goseonwon(disguised as a peaceful church but is a group of cruel, murderous beings) takes advantage of their flimsy state & lures them to Goseonwon to exploit Sang-mi’s innocence.

After Sang-mi’s mother loses sanity & her father being manipulated by the cult she becomes trapped in the cult where cult leader wants to make her his. After, three years of being trapped in that cult when sang-mi has no hope of escaping she encounters Ok Taec-yeon as Han Sang-hwan the son of the county chief who is now a law student, and his two friends Jung-hoon and Man-hee who were sang-mi’s classmates. She whispers to them, “Save me.” Sang-hwan who was guilty for his past actions determined to do right by sang-mi tries to save her with his friends & joined by Woo Do-hwan as Suk Dong-chul who was wrongfully convicted.

Performance & Direction

Save Me is a 2017 South Korean television series , the first television series from producer Lee Jae-moon’s company Hidden Sequence. This drama series is based on the popular Daum webcomic Out of the World (세상 밖으로) by Jo Geum-san. Storyline of this k-drama is top-notch which shows the real scenario behind the happy frame. Seo Yea-ji as Im Sang-mi illustrates her role perfectly. Her expression, desperation, helplessness every act feels real and will touch your heart. Seo Yea-ji is truly a brilliant actress.

Ok Taec-yeon as Han Sang-hwan & Woo Do-hwan as Suk Dong-chul gave their characters justice & you will love their friendship. Specially Han Sang-hwan, Dong-chul, Jung-hoon and Man-hee group will win your heart.

Special mention to Jo Sung-ha as Baek Jung-ki as the spiritual leader of the cult will give you goosebumps. The real manipulative attitude behind his caring acting Jo Sung-ha really nailed that.

Conclusion

I personally love this series. Acting, storyline, direction everything is realistic and perfect. It’s not typical Korean drama with feel good character, it shows the real frame in our society the bullying & unapologetically gory scenes. It’s definite recommendation from my side, You won’t get disappointed! It’s currently available on Netflix.
