Raya and The Last Dragon
Introduction
With the stupendous success of our review of Luca, we are back with another review of another Disney Movie. And with that I have finished watching Raya and The Last Dragon on Hotstar Premium, a movie which has been on my watchlist for quite some time now. I have always had a fascination for the animation genre. It is a common myth that animation is meant for kids only. Some of the best animation movies actually teach values which are at times missing in adults too, and that too in the most joyous manner. And the pioneer of animation as a genre is definitely Disney. They usually have their heart in the right place. So then is Raya and The Last Dragon worth your time, stay tuned.
Story & Screenplay
Raya And The Last Dragon follows the story of Raya who is in search of the Dragon Sisu, who has transferred all her powers into a magical gem that is now divided over the Kingdom of Kumandra. The story as with all stories of Disney, touches your heart upto the point of making it melt. The screenplay also compliments the story very well. The entire journey of the protagonist is designed as an action adventure but there are several heart warming moments too. And at the cost of repeating myself, is it even a Disney film if it doesn’t make you shed a tear? The ending teaches a whole new(actually age old) lesson of Trust and Unity which will help the world come together as a part of universal brotherhood. With people helping one another and trusting each other, now that will be an ideal world that we would be part of. Small steps daily will see us get there! The screenplay is excellent.
Dialogues, Music & Direction
The dialogues are thought-provoking and will leave a lasting impression. The BGM like in all Disney movies is exceptional. Here, particularly it is pulsating and does its part to heighten the drama. The action sequences are very well designed. A word on the animation which is simply fabulous. Directors Carlos Lopez Estrada and Don Hall keep all the Disney values and sensibilities in check while delivering yet another heart warming product. Their direction is excellent!
Voiceovers
The voiceovers are on point here. Gemma Chan who has voiced Namaari is terrific here. Awkwafina who has voiced the dragon Sisu is exceptional. And Kelly Marie Tran as the voice of Raya adds a lot of soul and depthness to the character. All others too have done a phenomenal job.
Conclusion
Raya And The Last Dragon is a magical and heartwarming tale of trust and Universal Brotherhood. Available on Hotstar Premium and Another Disney Movie which is Highly Recommended.
