Raat Baaki Hai is the story of events unfolding one might where a murder takes place. Who has committed it? Adapted from a play, the story is definitely interesting with a good premise. But the writers had a tall task to transform the stage story to a screen story. And here is where they fell short drastically. The screenplay is slow to begin with. It takes it time to setup the world around in the first hour. As it was a good buildup but come the second hour, things were very predictable. You will be able to easily guess who the killer is if you have watched dozens of such movies. Also a big flaw was that the narration did not follow the investigation done by the investigating officer. Instead, a needless flashback comprised major portions of the second hour. This is a cardinal sin in a whodunnit. Remember the Manoj Bajpayee starrer Silence and how he worked his way to the end to unmask the real killer? That indeed was thrilling and a perfect template for a whodunnit. Here, the screenplay should have been adapted better, perhaps the stage drama would have been better with this screenplay, the onscreen drama falls flat.
