Breshna Khan Featured Interview 01

My goal is to grow as an actor with all the experiences: Breshna Khan

– By Farhad Dalal

With back to back releases this year in the form of Undekhi 2 and Escaype Live, Breshna Khan is making serious inroads. In an Exclusive Interview with Farhad Dalal from Popcorn Reviewss she talks about the response to her releases, how the onset of OTT has resulted in opportunities for artists like her and the year 2022 ahead.

1. First Aranyak then Undekhi Season 2 and now Escaype Live. How has the response been?

The response has been quite overwhelming. These three projects have been my debut projects and the accolades which I got was more than what I had expected. When you are shooting and after it ends, you have no idea that people will even notice you. But after Aranyak, I was very grateful that I got appreciated from the industry, media and the audience. So I am extremely thankful for that and definitely looking forward for more.

2. Does the length of the role ever matter to you?

Well, I wouldn’t say it doesn’t matter at all. But the main thing which I look for is the scope to perform as an actor. So it doesn’t matter if the role is very small but if there is a scope for a good performance in a role which is challenging and something that I can learn from then I wouldn’t mind doing it. You can also make out from my choices from the three projects. There was a graph to each of the three characters and I learnt something from each of them.

3. How difficult is for an actor without a film background to break into the industry now with the onset of OTT content? Have things improved?

I can speak for myself and yes things have definitely improved. With the onset of OTT platforms, I have definitely benefited from it. My first project Aranyak is on an OTT platform Netflix. Before that, it was difficult to break into the industry without a film background. I was constantly trying and giving auditions but to no avail. But with the onset of OTT, people expect more variety and so many actors like me profited from that. So, yes a lot has improved since the onset of OTT platforms and I am really grateful for that.

4. What are the goals which you have set as an actor? Any directors you wish to work with specifically?

My Goal is to grow as an actor with all the experiences which I get. I feel there is never enough to learn as an actor, and I am right at the beginning of my journey. I love to learn new skills as an actor and take up challenging roles where I can put my skills to test. I am even willing to fail as I will get to learn even from that experience.

There are a lot of directors which I would love to work with. From India there is Anurag Kashyap whom I am a big fan of. So it would be an honour to work with him. Then there is Imtiaz Ali, Tamasha is one of my favourite films of his. So working with him would be a dream come true for me. But to be honest, I grew up watching a lot of Hindi films and there is a huge variety to them. There isn’t one particular genre which overpowers the other. I enjoy my share of comedy films as well. I grew up watching Madhuri Dixit dance on songs of Devdas which was directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali who is another director whom I look up to. I also have trained in Kathak and love dancing. I grew up in Germany and so I have been privy to a lot of German Content. For Instance the Netflix Series Dark which is my favourite and its director Baran bo Odar is also someone I would love to work with. These are just a few names but my list is long and I would love to experience a variety of roles and genres and grow as an actor. As I said earlier, I am still at the very beginning and hopefully I will get to learn from different experiences.

5. What would be your dream role if you had to pick just one character?

That is a very difficult question. But if I had to pick just one character then it would be Manisha Koirala’s role in Dil Se. I love that character as it has so many layers to it. The character was extremely challenging and Manisha Koirala did a fabulous job. So that would be my pick, likewise characters which are complex, challenging and interesting to perform.

6. After two good outings this year in Undekhi Season 2 and Escaype Live, what does the rest of 2022 look like?

There are a few projects lined up this year. I will be shooting for a bunch of projects which I am not allowed to talk about yet. And I am really looking forward to them because I am the happiest on a film set. So, I am eagerly waiting to begin shooting. Other than that, I am in the process of giving auditions and hopefully you will get to see more of me and I will get to learn more as an actor. Fingers crossed.
