Mr. Queen
Introduction
Have you ever dreamt of waking up from your bed as a different gender human being, that too from a different era? Shocking!!! Right? My recent watched Mr. Queen Korean series is a comedy period drama with lots of adventures and rollercoaster rides.
Story and screenplay
It’s one of the best period dramas I have ever watched. An official modern Blue House chef, Jang Bong-hwan (played by Choi Jin-hyuk) who is trapped in a conspiracy that is done by both Director Han and his colleague Bu Seung-min , jumps from high balcony in order to escape from cops and falls down in a swimming pool. Now when he wakes up after feeling near death experiences while drowning, he finds himself in the body of a queen Kim So-yong (played by Shin Hye-sun) of the Joseon Dynasty.
Though Mr. Queen is based on the Chinese novel Tai Zi Fei Sheng Zhi Ji by Xian Chan and also the Chinese adaptation of Go Princess Go!, I love this creative and unpredictable period drama in Korean way, it’s a perfect stress buster, you will giggle in literally all scenes. The first 20 minutes you need to know the basic characters and you will start laughing in each scene till the end, trust me!
I love the way Bong Hwan’s struggle from Kim So-yong’s body is shown. After he is transported to the Joseon times, he faces various challenges and the biggest one is King Lee Won-beom(Cheol Jong) (played by Kim Jung-hyun).
King Cheol Jong is known as a puppet king who only rules in name as agreed by the Grand Queen .He seems like a figurehead, who is gentle and easygoing, but in reality, he is very determined courageous king who has lots of secret agendas.
Now comes the acting of lead pair.
Both actors did a marvelous job in portraying such difficult characters. Shin Hye-sun is perfect in portraying a guy’s soul trapped in her body. Her eyes are beautiful in expressing all different states of Bong Hwan’s mind. It’s her best work till now. And Kim Jung-hyun is terrific. He perfectly plays the Secret king character with relatable humor. His chemistry with our “Mama” is beautiful, I love them. Even the supporting actors especially the court maid, Royal chef and Lady Choi are literally a treat to watch.
Dialogue, OST, Styling and Direction
Directed by Yoon Sung-sik, this unique period drama has also got the second-highest premiere rating of any weekend drama category on tVN. This entertaining historic drama is perfectly directed and all the action scenes are realistically executed.
Coming to OST, “Bong Hwan A” soundtrack is perfect peppy song for this drama. I loved it.
Conclusion
It’s literally a stress buster for me. Though the drama is all about serious social issues, but the storytelling is soo unique and fresh, you will definitely love it. It’s currently available in Viki.
