Man of the Match (2022) is a Kannada language comedy drama film. The film stars Nataraj S Bhat, Vasuki Vaibhav, Dharmanna Kadooru, Sundar Veena, Atharva Prakash, Mayuri Nataraj, Brunda Vikram, Shri Datta, Chandarashekar in pivotal roles. The film is directed by D Satya Prakash. This Kannada film is backed by late actor Puneeth Rajkumar’s PRK productions.
The film is about a filmmaker (Nataraj S Bhat) that has thrown open auditions for his upcoming film. He gives the auditioning artists an imaginary situation to stop the marriage of a rich boy and a poor girl. As the artists clash with one another on various ways to stop the wedding from happening, they are reeled for an underlying analysis of current social conflicts. The satirical comedy also throws light on the endless war between the truth and the deceit.
There is no dearth of emotions in Man of the Match, as the film has plenty of characters that are well defined. Despite the fact that every scene in the film is layered with sensitive problems that are relevant in current times, they are delivered with a comical twist, making it digestible and not very preachy. Right from the lead pair, the grumpy couple to an old wannabe actor, all the actors have done a commendable job.
Screenplay and Music
One of the biggest strengths of Man of the Match is that it has a series of unpredictable moments. Just as one thing gets resolved, another one pops up. Even though the film has a run time of less than two hours, the screenplay is a slightly less engaging at times. There are some obvious loopholes.
Scoring background music for such experimental films can be challenging, but Vasuki Vaibhav perfectly catches the meter to set the right tone.
Overall, Man of the Match mixes is a highly interesting combination of entertainment and social messaging. You will certainly like the film if you are up for a new experiment.
The film is streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
