Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin is a 1996 Indian Hindi-language thriller film. It is directed by Sudhir Mishra. The film stars Nirmal Pandey, Tara Deshpande, Smriti Mishra,Manoj Pahwa, Saurabh Shukla and Ashish Vidyarthi in pivotal roles. The entire plot of the film takes place over a single night.

The script of the film is based on a story written by Sudhir Mishra’s brother, Sudhanshu Mishra.

The film is based on a story written by Mishra’s own brother Sudhanshu Mishra. It illustrates the story of a young advertising executive named Aditya (Nirmal Pandey). His wife has just found out that he is having an affair. Being very nervous, Aditya tries his best to ‘manage’ the situation by placating the two women. However, he ends up enraging both in the process. In a parallel track, a feared underworld don by the name of Raman Bhai (Ashish Vidyarthi).

He is frustrated with his own problems. He has also killed his best friend and partner Vilas’ (Saurabh Shukla) wife. This was in an accident arising out of a tragic misunderstanding. Vilas is now after his life and will not rest until he avenges his wife’s murder.

There is a third man in the scene. He is a gangster named Praful Kalia (Virendra Saxena). Praful wants to take advantage of the situation by fanning the fire between Raman Bhai and Vilas, hoping that one or both of them will be killed in the process, making him the undisputed king of the Mumbai underworld. Due to such a tense situation, Aditya and Raman Bhai cross paths at a bar. In an unfortunate scenario, Aditya ends up slapping Raman Bhai, in front of a rival gang. Insulted and furious, Raman Bhai and his gang now hunt Aditya throughout the night in Mumbai.

What follows next forms the crux of the story.

The core strength of Is Raat KI Subah Nahi arrives from its script and the slew of fascinating characters that Mishra has created. Nirmal Pandey, Tara Deshpande, Smriti Mishra, Manoj Pahwa, Saurabh Shukla and Ashish Vidyarthi have performed their roles with utter perfection.

Another key feature of this film is its unpredictable storyline. Several twists and turns and changes in the plot will ensure that you cannot rest easy. As the events of the film unfold over one night, this engaging thriller will keep you on the edge of your seat.

The music of the film also deserves special appreciation. The soundtrack includes several memorable tracks and instrumentals composed by M. M. Kreem, with lyrics by Nida Fazli. It is essential to note that Fazli received a Filmfare Best Lyricist Award Nomination for “Jeevan Kya Hai.” Background music was by Salim-Sulaiman. Another memorable song of the film was “Chup Tum Raho Chup Hum Rahein”.

Even after 25 years of its release, Many filmmakers, critics and cinephiles today consider Is Raat Ki Subah Nahi as one of the finest gangster films of modern Indian cinema. It is a masterpiece that should be watched by people who love gangster thrillers.
