This week we are going to be witnessing perhaps the most awaited event of our century, “Friends: The Reunion” and as a worshiper of this show, when my friend asked me to write a review of the series, I do not know where to start. Can I do justice to this legendary show that ran for 10 seasons and won zillion hearts along the way? A show that most of us still watch and which is still being aired 15 years after its last episode came out. Can I do justice? I do not know but I will try.

“Six Friends. Two Apartments. A Coffee Shop.” This is the image that comes to our mind as we think about this iconic show. And numerous other moments and dialogues they have given us. As the name suggests, the series is about six very interesting people who happen to be friends. I love the show and its writers because of the kind of unconventional careers they have been given, life challenges, the drama, and a lot of love, friendship, and laughter in between. Ross is a paleontologist (yes, none of us knew the word before the show), his sister Monica is an aspiring chef and cleanliness freak, Rachel her roommate is a spoiled brat who runs away from her marriage and is discovering herself and her career. Phoebe the most interesting character who plays guitar is a masseuse and is wonderfully weird. Chandler the king of sarcasm works on a computer (till date I do not know what exactly is his job) and the most loveable Joe is an actor (is he?).

Let me introduce you to the characters by perhaps revisiting some of their most famous lines.

Monica - Welcome to the Real World. It sucks. You’re gonna love it.

Rachel - What if I don’t want to be a shoe. What if I want to be, you know, a purse? Or a hat? No! I don’t want you to buy me a hat. It’s a metaphor, Daddy!

Chandler - I’m not great at the advice. Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?

Joe - Does not share food!

Phoebe - I wish I could, but I don’t want to.

Ross - Pivot!

This is show is an experience that you will live through and an emotion that will stay with you long after it is over. It has been my savior and my go-to comforter for so many years. I remember once I had a really bad day at work, came home, and started watching Friends. It was when my flat mate came home and asked, “You’re watching Friends, right?” did I realize how happy it made me. Because she said she walked through the door and heard my laughter and thought, it must be Friends.

I beg, plead, and for the love of God urge you to watch the series today if you have not. And if you have, well, you do not need a reason. I did a little survey to check with my friends on what are some of their most favourite episodes and here is a list for you to keep away your blues before the Reunion this week!

The one with the Embryos (S4.E12)

The One With Two Parties (S2.E22)

The One Where Everybody Finds Out (S5.E14)

The One with the Cop (S.E16)

The One That Could Have Been Part 1&2 (S6.E5&6)

All the Thanksgiving episodes (Please google it!)

And my personal favorite: Phoebe’s wedding (S10.E12)

Before I go, I just want to tell you to please feed your cat in a way that she doesn’t smell. Pivot through life’s all problems. I really wish you find your lobster and tell me what you think -, “Were Ross and Rachel really on a break?”

As Phoebe said, “Boyfriends and girlfriends will come and go, but this is for life”.
