Introduction

Netflix is producing so many different contents that you can’t help yourself from watching it, just like that I started watching “Clickbait” in hope of freshness in storyline & to be honest this thriller drama blew my mind. “Clickbait” has a very unique storyline that will be so captivating that it will leave you in a nail-biting atmosphere. Every episode is focused on a character fighting their internal battle in daily life like adultery, catfishing, bullying based on your status, social & personal expectations etc. The story is on-point with the mixture of family drama, intense thrilling situations & police involvement, not a single scene wasted.

Screenplay & Storyline

The story revolves around Adrian Grenier as Nick Brewer and his family, how they get trapped into a suffocating situation when nick gets kidnapped & his video gets viral, him holding cards where it’s written “I abuse women.”, “At 5 million views I die.” Nick’s sister Zoe Kazan as Pia first saw the video and immediately gets worried about his brother when she fails to contact him. The video gets so viral people immediately gets into conclusion that nick is a murderer after a second video gets out, him holding card saying “I killed a Woman.” Nick’s family faces extreme public outburst and harassment of reporter but their life turns to gutter when woman Jessie Collins as Emma Beesly comes forward saying she’s the girlfriend of nick. As nick isn’t there to prove himself, Nick’s family starts to question themselves who’s the man they were living with? wasn’t he the perfect husband? brother? father? son.

The effect of the disappearance of nick is perfectly illustrated where his sister tries to protect his brother, Betty Gabriel as nick’s wife feeling guilty for her infidelity, nick’s sons getting bullied, the detective Phoenix Raei as Roshan Amiri and Abraham Lim as Ben Park the journalist seeing this as opportunity to ladder up in their career.

Performance & Direction

“Clickbait”, 8-episode series created and produced by Tony Ayres and Christian White, with David Heyman serving as producer manages to mark it’s effect on viewer’s mind.

Adrian Grenier as Nick Brewer has limited presence on screen but successfully made us wonder if he’s the “perfect guy” that his family thinks or he’s the “cheating husband who killed a woman”. Zoe Kazan as Pia Brewer, Nick’s sister portrayed her character good but not that good to leave a mark in your mind. The character that impressed me is Betty Gabriel as Sophie Brewer portrays the wife of Nick in a mixed race family, her presence draws a perfect impact in the storyline, “Get out” actress Betty Gabriel nailed her character perfectly.

Other characters worth mentioning are Jessie Collins as Emma Beesly, a woman who claimed to be Nick’s mistress illustrates her character so well that made us confused with her whether she’s physically met nick or not. Camaron Engels as Ethan Brewer, Sophie and Nick’s eldest son and Jaylin Fletcher as Kai Brewer, Sophie and Nick’s youngest son also portrays their character a son who’s confused about his perfect father’s disappearance and facing hatred from classmates also.

Conclusion

I honestly didn’t have much expectation from this series but the plot twists blown me completely, the storyline is so captivating that I watched the entire miniseries in just one day the drama had me invested. It’s a definite green from myside! Go watch this fresh storyline drama! It’s currently available on Netflix.
