Bachelor is a 2021 India Tamil-language romantic drama film written and directed by debutant Sathish Selvakumar. Produced by G.Dillibabu under the banner of Axess Film Factory, the film stars G. V. Prakash Kumar and Divyabharathi. It was released on 3 December 2021.

Bachelor tells the story of a carefree youngster called Darling (G. V. Prakash Kumar). One day, Darling meets Subbu (Divya Bharathi), earns her attention and they begin a live-in relationship. Everything goes well for them until Subbu gets pregnant.

Subbu wants to be a mother and live a happy life with Darling. However, Darling is against it and asks her to go for an abortion. Things turn ugly after Subbu’s family cooks up a fake incident and arrests the family of Darling in a domestic violence case. The lawyer of Darling lawyer suggests another idea for him to win the case. However, the consequence will be the emasculation of Darling. What follows next is the rest of the story.

Screenplay, Cinematography, Music and Direction

The main strength of ‘Bachelor’ is the youthful elements that the screenplay contains throughout the first half and to a large extent in the second. Another engaging factor is the unpredictability of the screenplay which defies most of the conventions that Tamil audiences are used to.

Theni Easwar’s cinematography with mostly handheld shots is certainly the main highlight of the film. Siddhu Kumar’s background score is a symphony of exuberant musical pieces and bit songs that enhance the viewing experience.

On his debut, Director Sathish Selvakumar has done a commendable job with an unconventional storyline.

Acting Performances

All the main and supporting characters of the film have performed exceptionally well.

The lead actor G.V. Prakash delves deep into a well written character of a person. He is so into himself that he never even reacts to what others are going through or feeling.

The debutante actress Divyabharathi also looks pretty without any makeup and is a natural before the camera. She has effortlessly nailed the sensuality and the confusion in the relationship.

Other supporting characters including Muniskanth, Bhagavathy Perumal and Mysskin have done a good job.

Conclusion

Overall, Bachelor is a well crafted film with amazing technical aspects such as music and cinematography. However, a slow and tedious second half of the film results in Bachelor being a one time watch but with a good message.
