Andhadhun

RATING
4 Star popcorn reviewss

One always enjoys an intelligent thriller. The mood, once the movie ends, is an unparelleled high. Last that I remember, a thriller that had a lasting impression coming from Bollywood was Drishyam. This week releases another thriller, Andhadhun which did cause a flutter with its interesting trailer…..does to movie live up to the curiosity…lets find out.

Andhadhun is the story of…..not revealing the plot here as I want you to experience it(also because it is a bit convoluted 😛). The story is a good one, not to mention intelligent. All the questions that you have from the trailer are answered within the first 20 mins. It is almost like the director is teasing the audience into the plot. By the way, this is NOT a whodunit. The screenplay packed with twists and turns is extremely well penned in the first half. There is a little dip in the second half but the writers quickly recover from it to set up a crackling climax. The dialogues are hilariously dark. To give you a perspective, almost every second dialogue was met with an applause by the packed house! The music pieces by Amit Trivedi are excellent. Director Sriram Raghavan proves yet again that he is a master of thrillers. Full marks to his direction.

Radhika Apte as Sophie looks pretty and leaves a mark even though her character has the least impact on the screenplay. Tabu as Simi is excellent and has shades of her character that she portrayed from Maqbool and Haider. Ayushmann Khurana in a career defining role as the blind pianist(or is he?) Akash is in superb form. Manav Vij, Zakir Hussain, Chhaya Kadam all deserve a mention for some top notch performances. Anil Dhawan in a brave cameo is also on point. All characters are relevant to the screenplay(even the blind bunny from the trailer)!

Andhadhun is a movie that we all deserve. It is intelligently penned, deliciously funny and one of the best thrillers coming out of Bollywood!! I will watch it again on my next blind date(maybe not blind 😉 )!!

PS : I might end up writing a ‘Join the dots’ on the movie based on the ending(not explained in the film). Should be fun!
