Dear Raj and Simran,
It has been 26 years since we met for the first time. I was all of 5 years old when you introduced me to your world of romance, the one that I still fall for even today.
This is the generation of whatsapp and almost grown on memes but the 90s kids like me still have a Raj residing inside us. The moment we find did find our Simran, we would try and impress her with the charm that you did teach us with lines like ‘Bade Bade Deshon mein aisi Chhoti Chhoti Baatein Hoti Rehti Hain’. When in doubt, the Raj inside us would speak to us- ‘Agar yeh ladki tujhse pyaar karti hai toh Palat ke Dekhegi….Palat…Palat..Palat’.
Sitting on a lazy sunday afternoon, sipping my cup of hot chocolate, I am thinking about the what ifs. What if Simran, you hadn’t met Raj on your final trip before your ‘arranged marriage’? What if Raj, you hadn’t gone to India to follow your heart and not give up on the love of your life, Simran? What if Simran, you hadn’t run for your life to board the train and what if Raj, you had stretched every ounch of yourself while hoping Simran makes it in time to board the train? How would life have been otherwise? Your life may well have been different and so would have ours!
Even today while watching #DDLJ, I do root for you two to meet every single time. I laugh and cry and cheer for you because each time(against the odds), when love wins, I feel that I do too every single time.
Raj and Simran, I hope you are in a happy space right now and the love that you ignited in an entire generation, still burns between you two. I just know that you two are still very much on love. As Anupam Kher had rightly put it, ‘Mohabbat ka naam aaj bhi mohabbat hai, yeh na kabhi badli hai na hi kabhi badlegi’. Just like you two! Cheers!
