It is a common misconception that I do not enjoy any masala entertainers. On my page, you may have seen more of cerebral and intelligent movies however, it doesn’t mean that I don’t watch masala entertainers. The only condition being that it should ‘entertain’ and not end up giving me a headache. Since, I have been watching and reviewing South Indian movies lately, I decided to watch Kaithi, a movie that I had heard many good things about. Is it worth your time…lets find out.

Kaithi is the story of a man who is released from prison after 10 years and wants to go and meet his daughter at an orphanage. But before that he needs to drive a cop to the commisioner’s office. Well, the story is your typical masala movie story but it is the screenplay that is engaging. At the cost of sounding repetitive, The makets down South really know how to tell a story in the most entertaining manner. This is a thriller without any unnecessary side tracks and a finale that will give you an adrenaline rush with the lead goes in full combat mode. Dialogues are routine. Music is decent. Director Lokesh Kanagaraj has done a tremendous job in the direction department.

All performances are outstanding. Narain and George Maryan both have their moments. Ramana as Tips is excellent. Arjun Das as Anbu is first rate. All the college students are good and they deserve a story of their own. Then there is Karthi as Dilli who is outstanding. Right from the opening shot showing off his swag to slightly softer moments where he has to emote through his eyes to the final combat scene he just wins you over and how!

Kaithi is an absolutely must watch. Bollywood is remaking this starring Ajay Devgn, hope they don’t mess it up! Available on HOTSTAR VIP AND ABSOLUTELY RECOMMENDED!
